I read the heart-warming book One For The Murphy's by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. This is a realistic fiction novel. Carley, the main character, is introduced when she is going through some rough times. Her family is falling apart and she just got released from the hospital. The previous night Carley was nearly killed when her stepfather started to abuse her.
March Summary The novel “March” written by Geraldine Brooks is about the story of Mr. March during the Civil War. March leaves his wife, Margaret (Marmee), and their four daughters, Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy to fight for the Union after seeing younger men sign up. In the war, March is a chaplain for the Union army. During the war, March writes letters to his family in Concord without talking about the brutality and gore of the war.
The Civil War is not something that one desires to relive, but Shiloh by Shelby Foote brings to life one of the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. Foote takes the reader through the Battle of Shiloh from 17 different soldiers’ perspectives. Foote combines his narrative style with traditional historical style to depict the importance of the Battle of Shiloh with accuracy to engage his audience. Through the development of his narrative style, Foote is able to change the way American histories are written. Shelby Foote utilizes Union and Confederate perspectives to present a true narrative on the Battle of Shiloh, while highlighting the human experience in war, to influence the American’s view on history.

March follows a man and his experiences and interactions during the brutal war. The book shows March’s views, reasons for him to join the army, his relationships with others, and his reactions toward what was going on around him. The novel March is a very important piece of literature with its interesting way of showing what life was like during that time.
The book Sunrises over Fallujah, by Walter Dean Myers was an accurate representation of the conflict in the Middle East. Myers incorporated real war strategies, like false intel and Improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The book was about strategy that the United States used called counterinsurgency. PTSD was a factor in this and it was brought on by everything in the war from seeing dead bodies from getting shot at.
The novel Alandra’s Lilacs, by Tressa Bowers, tells the story of a Deaf woman, Alandra, and her mother Tressa. The story begins before Alandra was born and tells Tressa’s narative up to Alandra’s adulthood. Throughout the book, the reader sees the challenges that come with having a deaf child. We see both the achievements and setbacks faced by Alandra and her mother. Although being deaf may seem like a misfortune to most, Tressa reveals her experiences with Deaf culture and seeing deafness in a new light.
Fever 1793 was written by Laurie Halse Anderson and is based on the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793. Fever 1793 had several historically accurate locations and events as well as people of 1793. In 1793 Yellow Fever broke out in Philadelphia just like it did in the book. In 1793, there would only be free walking blacks in Philadelphia because of the Quakers of this time period. Eliza is an example of one of the free walking blacks in Philadelphia.
The veterans of the Bonus March, 1932 were awarded with “bonuses” for their bravery in the war by the government to be paid at a later date. Many of these soldiers were unable to support themselves and their families because of the depression and requested the American government to pre-pone their bonus. Their hopes were shattered when the senate did not pass the bill and in turn their retaliated and assaulted the police with brutality. The author is trying to explain how a politically influenced approach can sometimes have consequences but lead to a positive outcome. Through her reading the author Barbara shows her readers that taking a stand and fighting for the greater good is not an easy task.
The title of my book is Lost in the Barrens. It is a fiction book by Farley Mowat that contains 244 pages. The Main Characters are Awasin, Jamie Angus, Alphonse, Denikazi and peetyuk. Awasin is a quite serious and he knows about how to survive in the wilderness and thinks more before he acts. Awasin is good at weaving, making clothing and hunting.

Ray Bradbury develops this by the classmates hurting Margot and shoving her in a closet. On the other hand, Lynda Mullaly Hunt develops this by showing how Ally breaks down after she can’t take being bullied anymore. The short story “Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury there’s a character named Margot who usually feels alone because she never wants to play with the other kids in her school on Venus.

When Chickenheads Come Home to Roast: A Hip-Hop Feminist Breaks It Down examines feminism in the black community based on the author and journalist Joan Morgan’s experiences and perceptions of sexism and racism of black women. The author talks about the stereotyped labeling and fear of being called a feminist. Several questions are raised such as: what is a strong black woman, why black men are endangered and what are the effects of hip-hop music lyrics on black women? Feminism is challenged in regard to male reproductive rights and equality. The unfamiliar dialogue is opened between professional women and the “chickenhead” concerning their relationship with black men.
Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns showcases various trials of grief and how characters deal with it. At the beginning of the book, the death of Mattie Lou Toy, a beloved grandmother, wife and mother sends shockwaves through Cold Sassy. The later deaths of Campbell Williams and Rucker Blakeslee shatter everyone even more. The loved ones display all different types of grieving processes including uniquely distressing ones for grieving spouses and children. Grief can harm an individual’s physical and mental health and can cause many long term issues.

This poem was chosen because of the productive use of imagery and repetition. It carries valuable information to custodians of the land and is understandable for people in Australia. ‘Sun Downs and Seasons’ is written by Kirli Saunders, who herself is a first-nation person. She is a Gunai woman, born in the Gundungurra country in New South Wales with ties to the Yuin Birpi and Gadigal people.
In 1941, Eudora Welty published her short story, Why I live at the PO, about a dysfunctional family. The story contains many different members of the family, including Sister, Stella-Rondo, Mama, Papa-Daddy, and Uncle Rondo, and they can be described in different ways. The words in the following paragraphs are words that I would use to describe Sister, Stella-Rondo, and Mama. When I think of words to describe Sister from Why I live at the PO, I think of frank, witty, and jealous. I would describe her as frank because she was always making comments about her sister, Stella-Rondo, no matter how they actually sounded.
