n Anthem by Ayn Rand, we are introduced to a society based on collectivism. This society has strict rules that will punish people who don’t obey. Faced with the challenges of their society, Equality 7-2521 is forced to find an outlet to investigate their technological creation. Equality 7-2521 must hide from the world because of committing some of the worst crimes, only International 4-8818 knows of Equality 7-2521’s ambitions. Through the lies and deception Equality 7-2521 continues to explore their new technology. When the time does arise when Equality 7-2521 must display their discovery to the World Council of Scholars instead of being rewarded for their creation, the Council of Scholars see what Equality 7-2521 made to be a device of the …show more content…

In Anthem, we don’t have any clear internal thoughts by International 4-8818 or by Liberty 5-3000, but using their reaction we can assume that International 4-8818 was worried by what Equality 7-2521 was doing. “‘The will of the Council is above all other things, for it is the will of our brothers, which is holy. But if you wish it so, we shall obey you. Rather shall we be evil with you than good with all our brothers. May the Council have mercy upon both our hearts.”’(34) This quote from International 4-8818 to Equality 7-2521 is evidence of the connection the two have made against the rules of the society. It is where the plot of Anthem begins to reflect Ayn Rand’s philosophy. Liberty 5-3000, while not aware of everything Equality 7-2521 was doing they would've been more supportive because they also see the fault of the society. While I understand the reasoning behind Liberty 5-3000 running away with Equality 7-2521 I don’t think that if I were in their place that I would accept the same actions. In the Anthem society it would be best to follow the rules because if not there would be severe consequences. Instead of risking torture or death conforming to the societal norms would’ve been safer. Even though Liberty 5-3000 and Equality 7-2521 would not have been able to be as close their lives would not have been at risk to the Uncharted
