Now she is exhausted and demoralized. What happened to her you might ask. What happened to the lively, hopeful girl I raised her parents might’ve asked themselves. What happened to the energetic, amazing girl I once knew her friends might’ve asked their selves. The words Melinda felt she couldn’t say; the burden of it too much to even utter the words.
She starts off talking about what she looks like and how she acts, then eventually the girl starts to accept herself. It takes the girl a while to get to the point of acceptance, there is many obstacles she has to get through. First there is her fake funeral, then her grandmother, and father died. “My grandmother died, then my father.” (Norton 227).

Dr. David Henry guilty of giving away his daughter is still remains in him every passing day. Norah, David’s wife, is struggling with the “death” of her daughter and the growing separation between her and her husband. As the story continues through the years, the Henry’s son, Paul is 13 and he is starting to discover his family’s hidden secrets. Caroline is still raising Paul’s twin sister, Phoebe, and determines why David gave his child to her to be given up for adoption.
Lying occurs constantly as an excuse or a way out of a situation. Lying can also be used to seek an easier solution out of a problem or scenario. Whether people lie in a blatant way, or just secretly, by the end of the situation someone is always affected by it. Throughout the novel, lies like the death of David's new born baby, Phoebe, have an impact on every main character f, as they see their lives turned around for the worst.

Negative Impact of Proposition 555 Proposition 555 is for increased funding to re-develop the unsecured and dilapidated city by conversing old housing stock to high-rent apartments, a lucrative area and green space for parks, arts, and recreation for leisure activities. When Proposition 555 is enacted in a city, damaged and run down houses and apartments for low-income residents, such as Section 8 housing, would be obliterated. In this modern society, Proposition 555 seems likely to improve our living conditions with clean and luxurious buildings and peaceful parks.
