At ten years old, I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I proudly responded, “I want to be a lawyer.” To this day I have worked hard to familiarize myself with the law and since then my interest in helping people grew and grew. I decided to enroll myself in the only law magnet in the district. This was a tough experience; not only was I starting at a school that I was not zoned too, but this school was far more advanced than I was accustomed too. I noticed there was a diversity issue at my new school between students in advanced classes and regular classes.
Mr. Thelaw’s conduct would likely be considered extreme and outrageous when he manipulated Ms. Smartpants emotions in front of the class. The first chapter of “Law in America” by Lawrence M. Friedman is an introduction to the formation of the law system that we have in the United States today. The opening of the chapter depicts how Freidman starts his lectures, by reading the front few pages of the local newspaper to his very lethargic students who take his early class. At first, this seems odd given that this is not a political science class or media lecture. However, the logic behind this process is that in every “domestic” article in the news there is a connection to the law. Law is intertwined in almost every situation we face during, not only our day to day lives but also the very structure that forms the environment we live in.
In “The Cask of Amontillado,” by Edgar Allen Poe, Montresor displayed the image of a connoisseur as he artfully played with Fortunato to gain revenge. First of all, Montresor used Fortunato’s intoxication to his advantage to entice him into the depths of the vaults. Montresor perceived it would be much easier to manipulate Fortunato if he had been drinking all night long, so he implemented his plan after Fortunato had several drinks. As the story recited, “‘Drink,’ I said, presenting him the wine,” Montresor kept Fortunato’s drinking persistent even as they entered the damp, eerie vaults.
The relationship between the law and society affects everyone and everything. How the law is written and how it is acted upon in society are two different things. It is imperative, therefore, that we as citizens pay attention to and understand the importance of the relationship between the law and society as it affects both our own lives and the lives of those around us. We engage in and witness the power of the law and society everyday. The law is personal, however, the law is also discretionary depending on where you look.
A proposed determination working its way up the American Bar Association sounds sufficiently harmless, if not totally decipherable. It requires the reception of "administrative targets for the procurement of legitimate administrations" that would "distinguish and actualize regulations identified with lawful administrations past the conventional regulation of the lawful calling." Be that as it may, those words are mixing alert among some nearby bar bunches, which say it represents a grave risk to their calling. How's that you might inquire?
