As a Navy Reservist in a top cargo handling unit, I found myself on an airplane more often than I could have imagined. In those 5 years, we traveled to Virginia and Texas numerous times throughout the year for our weekend meetings not to mention yearly trips to places like California, Guam and Hawaii. It doesn't matter if I was away for the weekend or for two and a half weeks, packing made me apprehensive. I knew what I must bring... the uniform and what I wanted to bring... fun clothes.
As we approached the red and black car, I got into the car and noticed how roomy the car was. I was very exuberated to go to Minnesota. I packed 3 very stuffy bags. One of my bags was filled with clothes. The second one was filled with all my basketball stuff.
There's some truths that just aren’t told; some stories are too horrific to relive, and they just have to let the past be the past. In the Things They Carry In the vignette How to tell a true war story it reveals a story about a group of young men serving their time in the Vietnam War. A group of US military men went up into the mountain side and sit there silently; Tim O'Brien narrates "They don't got tongues. All ears" (69). There's a fine line between story truth and happening truth but story truth is superior because it's the story everyone hears.
The Things They Carried written by Tim O'Brien uses physical objects to describe how the soldiers felt on the inside. The war that was going on the outside was also going on in the inside. The author began the story describing items the soldiers carried in the field. No two soldiers carried the articles. Life is no different.
So, that day I stood in front of the class and gave my entire speech on why we should select Dollywood as our class trip destination, "... and for your benefit and mine, we should definitely agree to go to Dollywood. Dollywood consists of everything we would need to fulfill our longing for an amazing field trip. So, if we were going to pick an, out of this world trip, it would have to be Dollywood!" On our way to the land of wonder, we experience many bumps in the road. The travel wasn 't your typical highway drive.
In Tim O’Brien’s, “The Things They Carried ”, the story is set during the Vietnam war, the story’s main focus is on Lieutenant Jimmy Cross and his one sided love for a girl named Martha. O’Brien also mentions the other men in Jimmy Cross’ squad. ,even though O’Brien never mentions much more than what the names of the men were and what they carried, you could still tell a lot about the men by just what O’Brien says. For example “Mitchell Sanders, the RTO, carried condoms,” (1002) From this you can tell that sex was important to Sanders because he felt the need to bring condoms to war with
Things I Carry The things I carry to school are to ease my job everyday. I carry my backpack so it could hold all my other materials which I need to carry. I carry extra pencils in case of loss of my actual pencil. One day in January, my mechanical pencil ran out of lead during a math test, and I had to waste five minutes to get another pencil.
“That’s what stories are for. Stories are for joining the past to the future ... Stories are for eternity, when memory is erased, when there is nothing to remember except the story” (36). The Things They Carried is a captivating novel that gives an inside look at the life of a soldier in the Vietnam War through the personal stories of the author, Tim O’Brien . Jeannette Casique Hannah English Composition II 02, March 2016 The Things I Carry There are times in our lives where the things we carry can have a major impact on us, whether if it is our emotions, the essential items we need or the items that signify a sentimental value to us. As we all travel through life, we tend to experience many obstacles along the way that will cause a significant emotional reaction within you, whether if it was a painful, harmful and positive or a negative experience, we endure all of these emotions throughout our lives that mold us to the person we are today. “According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), motor vehicle theft is defined as the taking or attempted taking of a motor vehicle without permission of the owner. They go on to define a motor vehicle as any self-propelled vehicle that runs on land and not on rails. This does not include farm equipment, bulldozers, airplanes, construction equipment, or watercraft.” (Study.com, n.d.) Did you know that over 707,508 vehicles were reported stolen in the year 2015 and that was a 3.1% increase from the previous year.
Challenging Beliefs Vs. Challenging Obligations Many young Americans, such as Tim O’Brien, faced an ethical decision: whether to challenge their beliefs or fulfill their obligations. Throughout the Vietnam War, there were anti-war movements which led many Americans to resist and revolt against the war efforts. In The Things They Carried, O’Brien contemplates avoiding the war, however, his fear of fighting in Vietnam is overshadowed and shaped by the trepidation caused by societal pressures. An examination of the consequences and benefits of both options, as well as an analysis on how humans make decisions while being pressured, can explain O’Brien’s choice of participating in the war, rather than resisting it.

Cars technology is not only used as a way of impacting our lives but also to provide a more safe and convenient environment for transportation and even as a way of making profits for various companies. In this paper, I argue that there has been various advancement in car technology and those technologies have impacted the society both positively and negatively. There has been a massive dependency on the fast advancing technology by the society as a way of making people’s lives and those of others comfortable. People are happy about the continued growth of the car technology and the use of these cars in carrying out our day to day activities such as means of transport to work, hospital, school or transportation of goods from various places to our destinations. My First Car The first I ever had was an old model of the brand Toyota. It was color blue and was second-hand so I got it at a cheaper price. For a second-hand car, it was in a really good condition.
In the world, people have many hobbies and interests, being a car enthusiast is one of them. There are many stereotypes and misconceptions against car enthusiasts due to the lack of knowledge non-car enthusiasts have. Being a car enthusiast is not only admiring cars, but also having an interest to do what you want to with your car, such as driving. Whether you want to drag race, race on the track or go off roading, a true car enthusiast sees the beauty in cars whereas other people would just see a normal car. Car enthusiasts find the beauty in cheaper cars where they could mod their car to their desire.
