Pearson the entire process and impact of the Manioutlin Treaty is highlighted quite vividly. The novel illustrates the circumstances beforehand that led to the signing and shows it from the perspective of the Anishinaabe that inhabited the island for centuries, and of the English that were looking to settle the island to wreak economic profit.

The theme of the book seeks to understand the significant disparities and prompts exploration of factors, geographical, environmental, and historical circumstances that led to the unequal distribution of power. Lack of resources, inborn differences, social distinction, and the limited opportunities many indigenous people had were among the many challenges they faced. Diamond's narration is factual while both explaining the context and events that shape the course of history. The tone is neutral while still emphasizing each aspect of causation and effect when explaining native societies and European motives.
In the Fools Crow novel, I have learned, again, that the Pikuni, even all Native American tribes, were in fear for their traditions, land, and lives, because of the white people’s greed for land and power. Throughout the years, the majority of American schools have taught their classes about Native Americans. Most students understand that the immigrants from Europe were greedy for land and resources, providing constant treaties to relocate Native American reservations. If one tribe decided against the colonists’ wishes, they were brutally removed or depleted, typically in massacres. In Fools Crow, the author James Welch gives a better understanding of how the Native Americans, specifically the Pikuni, felt.
In the conclusion, he argues that Indian reservations and land rights were achievements earned by the Indians through anticolonial resistance, and that, despite the American’s attempts over three centuries to fully assimilate and erase the Indians, they have been able to hold on to their culture and identity.

In the end Magnus and his new found friends rebind the Wolf Fenris and defeat the fire giant Surt. Their history has literally been wiped out right before their eyes due to very cruel actions that have wiped out all the natives. Leaving only a few to be able to carry on this culture. This land is their land before all and having been taken from them by force. Not only was the land taken from them but almost all of their people were killed by settlers that came to conquer lands. This makes their youth today the only way to keep the last of their traditions alive. "
