The proposal that adolescents’ interest in literature has diminish in America is clearly voiced by Dana Gioia, in the article, “Why Literature Matters”. Although, Gioia used different methods to persuade his readers, one way he tried to persuade is by indicating the disadvantages of not reading in society today. Summary: As we can see that book handling is a very important skill because it comes in handy. They talk about a few of the skills such as, reading from top to bottom and left to right along with page to page. Aron is one of the kids they are using to observe. They talk about how he uses some skills to help him read. As he reads we can see he really wants to be able to read he sounds out the words and is showing signs of improving.

After that he goes on to show how reading has impacted society and politics as well, illustrating to the reader his claim that reading affects all of us. He then states that “literary readers are markedly more civically engaged than non readers.” This fact shows the benefits of reading while also falling under logos.
Next, she made a claim about how reading literature is falling into a dark age. Her next claim is telling the audience how ironically the value of reading in which shows a growing awareness made in 2001, by the National Association Of Manufacturer had made a poll on it members on skills deficiencies among employees. In the video, “Becoming Readers and Writers”, Shelia Owen’s kindergarten class, are five-and six-year-old are readers and writers from day one. The teacher discuss the four reading activities they use in the classroom. The first one she discuss is read aloud, which the teacher is reading a book, modeling the language, and stimulating the discussion in the love of reading. Share reading is when the teacher pulls back on participating and the children role increases. Another one she discuss about is guided reading, and that’s when the teacher pulls back further, and the children show her how much they have learned.
At first this book seems like it is simply full of illustrations, but if the pictures are ‘read’ they start to tell a story. If the reader were to skip the illustrations, they would become confused as to why the book might not make sense. Peter Carnavas is another author who uses both words and pictures in his children’s books to clearly tell the story. When he presents (reads) his books, he makes them realize that although he hasn’t clearly said where someone may be going, they have made the connection themselves by reading the pictures.
Another connection that the book and I share

Comparison: The similarities and differences in the experience of the world’s peoples which are how they are distincted from each other and are what put a nation’s accomplishments and failures in context.
While traveling towards the path of seeping knowledge and analyzing critical ideals, we’ve become absent minded towards the components that gave us the ability to read. Since reading is always a part of our everyday routine, we have lost the idea that when it comes to learning how to read, we must start from the basics. From reading a case study, to reading a letter from a loved one, comprehension, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and oral language are the six essential components of reading. Before a child develops the ability to read, they begin to develop comprehension. Comprehension can be defined as the ability to understand.
