Nick resembles Holden when he first describes his cousin Daisy and her husband Tom. He goes into elaborate stiry about why the couple decided to move to East Egg, their individual life stories, and the lack of love/ emotion he sees between them. Immediately following his detailed description of Tom and Daisy, Nick makes apparent that “And so it happened that on a warm windy evening [he] drove over to East Egg to see two old friends whom [he] scarcely knew at all” (Fitzgerald 6). By proclaiming that he barely knows two people who he just described in great detail proves Nick’s social awkwardness and lack of desire to be shown as as caring and observant.

For multiple reasons The Great Gatsby impacted my life. With personal issues and a previous appreciation for the theatrical version of the story, I was able to connect with the novel on a much deeper level than most. Through Gatsby’s persistence and passion, I was taught how important it is to care enough and pursue everything, even your craziest dream. Also, Jay’s tragedy revealed to me when a person should realize that maybe it is better to draw a line and move on in life even if it hurts. Overall, I am very thankful for the opportunity to read the book and learn the lessons I did.

After much research I have come to the conclusion that the greatest flaw in The Great Gatsby is the passed time that is unaccounted for in the novel. Therefore, if I were to have written the book differently I would have fixed this mistake. Because not only is time important to me, but it plays a significant role within the novel. This is a big mistake considering that one of theme in the novel is time for example because "there are 450 time words, including 87 appearances of time" Even Fitzgerald's himself admitted that this was a problem. After reading “The Great Gatsby” I’m excited to write an essay on this topic. Because to me when witting you’re opinion to this you have to “dig deeper” and when you’re thinking of what the word “Greatness” means. The terms of it could also mean “large” or “of magnitude” depending on the way you’re looking at it.
As a young child, my dream was to become a man of incredible wealth; a man who could not only provide for his family but a man boldly devoted to his job, a man so happy with no boundaries. Wasn’t this the American Dream? Today, I have the same dream as I did 30 years ago. I am where I want to be, yet I could never have imagined myself here.

The American Dream is defined as someone starting low on the economic or social level, and working hard towards prosperity and or wealth and fame. By having money, a car, a big house, nice clothes and a happy family symbolizes the American dream. The Great Gatsby shows what happened to the American Dream in the 1920’s, which is a time period when the dreams became corrupted for many reasons.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is an appropriate title for the novel because Gatsby himself is great. He is great because he is able to fool everyone that he is and always has been a person of high social and economical class, he is great because he isn’t like Tom and Daisy, he isn’t as careless. Remember you don’t have to be good to be great. And as the critic Matthew J. Broccoli notes, Gatsby “is truly great by virtue of his capacity to commit himself to his aspirations.” (Bruccoli 22)

One step at a time, he fulfills his desire and right now he may be sitting in the backyard of his immense residence, sipping tea from a shamefully expensive set of porcelain cups with his lovely wife, watching his kids play in the freshly mown lawn and having no worries in the world. This is the man living the American dream. Or more possibly this is what a man haunted by the latter would imagine being in the future.

This draws attention to the readers that question if Jay Gatsby is "Great". Despite the uselessness of his beginnings, Gatsby is great due to the intensity of his will. Although, Gatsby is a person whose false love, materialism, and egotism led him to the tragic end.
