The Cold War was caused by many events that but only a few were very significant. The Cold War could have turned into one of the deadliest wars known to man but thankfully no shots were fired. The severity of the war would have come from the nuclear warfare and probably led to the whole world being exploded. Instead of the Cold War being a killing concept it was instead a race between the United States and the Soviet Union in who could produce the better weapons, who could travel into space, and who had the more powerful nukes. Since the Cold War is such a significant event in history the events that led to it are just as important. The three main causes of the Cold War are when the United States nuclear bombed Japan, the Truman Doctrine, and the Marshall plan.

After around five years 130,000 more people died due to burns, radiation, and other related diseases. That was not the only nuclear bomb dropped though, another bomb was dropped on August 9, 1945 called “Fat Man” on the city of Nagasaki. The casualty numbers were similar to the ones in Hiroshima. By bombing Japan, the United States put the world into a scare but their intentions were to show the Soviet Union what kind of artillery they had. Also, it was to show dominance over the Soviet Union but eventually the Soviet Union would build a bomb of their own and this began an arms race. This event would change the weapons race forever by now making it into nuclear bombs which could destroy the world as we know
