In the book “The Metamorphosis”, Gregor Samsa is a traveling salesman who loathes his job, but keeps it being he has to pay off his father's debt and take care of his family. Consequently, he transforms into a large, broad insect and spends the rest of his life in that state. Despite his transformation into an insect, Gregor changes slightly as a character over the course of the book. Surprisingly, he accepts the hardships he faces as a bug and as a man without complaining. When his father went into debt, he readily took the role as the money earner in the family, even though it meant taking a job he did not adore. When he realizes he has transformed into a bug, he does not blow a gasket about his condition or tries to figure out why it happened. Right away, he accepts it and tries to carry on with his life the best he can in his new state. Despite turning into an aphid Gregor still wants to catch the bus to work to provide for his family. Furthermore, it takes some time for him to realize that he no longer can travel to work or even be outside considering the way he looks. He also discovers that he revels in crawling on the ceiling and walls. Gregor's humanity never disappears completely, he still has memories and has emotions equal to a human. When Gregor’s sister and mother are cleaning out his room so he has more space to crawl around, he becomes agitated. Of course, he knows that it would benefit him, but he does not want to lose all of his belongings because he is apprehensive he will lose his memories too. This shows that he still wants to be normal even though his family sees him as a disgusting
