This essay will discuss the triggers that led emigrants from different parts of the world to immigrate to France, throughout the inter-war period. Additionally, it will also draw attention to France’s position and its society towards the migrant movements, and socials issues that have contributed to the immigration over the period.
Historically, France has been one the major immigrating destination in Europe which goes back to the Middle Ages to the present days. It is important to point out that each period of French immigration history, has its own particular features. However, during the inter-war period the main factors that contributed to emigrants to come to France were, low birth rates, economy booming, lack of unqualified and qualified work force, exile for refugees, studies, freedom of expression and others.
