Book Report Title: The Underdogs Author: Mike Lupica Pages: 299 1. Characters- Will and his father, Joe, are the main characters in the story. They both love football, and they have both played football in their lifetime. Will’s mother died when he was 3, so Will has had no connection with his mother. Will’s best friend is Tim, and they play football together, and go to school together. 2. Background- The Tyler’s (Joe and Will) live in Forbes. Forbes is a town that has gone down hill due to money lost. Forbes used to have a huge shoe factory that took over the town, so when the factory went down the whole town did also. Joe was a high school star playing football, until he tore his knee in the backfield when he was running. He had a good chance at playing in the NFL, but he has never recovered from his injury. Now Will is taking over his position, and Joe is teaching him everything he knows about being a running back. 3. Motivation- Will gets motivated when he messes up on a running play, or if he doesn’t gain as much yards as he thinks he can. Resolution- The resolution in the story is that The Bulldogs made it to the championship game. They had to play with 10 players, but they were able to play, because there was no rule saying they couldn’t. The night before the big game there was a party right in the center of the town, because Will wrote a letter to be put into the paper about the journey of making this team. He encouraged everyone to come to the game, and even the New Balance guy showed up with all his support. The town did nothing less that then that, and they filled the bleachers at the big game. It was a tie game in the 4th quarter with 30 seconds left, and Castle Rock had to ball with one play remaining. Will knew it was going to Kendrick, so he read the route perfectly, and jumped in front of the throw and took the interception back for a touchdown. He was the
