Bridget Mullen is an amazing and innovative artist. She did an artist talk at the University of North Georgia (UNG) on August 27th at 2pm. The presentation of her art was held at the Gainesville Campus Art Gallery in the Performing Arts building. Recently I also saw Hsiu-Ching Yu at the University of North Georgia at the Gainesville Campus. She was there doing an Art Talk on October 1, 2015 and she had an art gallery set up as well.
Alice Neel was a painter in the early twentieth century, who was a trendsetter among women at the time. Neel worked primarily in the form of portraits, landscapes, and still-lifes but most notably portraits. There are two theories to Alice Neel’s paintings that critics alike seem to always mention or try to push as the main concept. These concepts are called the Male Gaze, and Honest Alice. The Male Gaze derives from the idea that all content that is created for women is meant to satisfy the sexual desire or even just appeal to men more sensually about women in the world.
As a Deaf artist who is also female, I was to go to the Oakland Museum for this analysis I was greatly disappointed in my experience but inspired amazingly at the end. I purchased my tickets to the Oakland museum, the first exhibit I saw was a gigantic sculpture created by Viola Frey with such beautiful detailed colors of a nude large female in a seated position with her right elbow on her right knee. The first thing I felt was hope that when I entered the Art Gallery at the Oakland museum that there would be plenty of other female artist’s work being portrayed; struck with utmost disappointment; my eyes gazed from piece to piece noticing male’s names repeatedly after the next. Summary The movie that I watched for this assignment was “Platoon”. It is about Chris Taylor an individual who left college to go into the military for infantry and combat. But since Taylor didn 't have any prior training, he risked his life and that of the rest of the troops when he gets injured during an Ambush. Throughout the film, Sargent Barnes and Taylor get in a dissagreeance and were threatening each other but through time Taylor showed the way he was thinking by attacking the Vietnamese village that they are staking out without understanding the grieving from the villagers.

While reading “The Trouble with (the Term) Art,” written by Carolyn Dean in the summer of 2006, we are taken through an array of different scenarios that lead us to questions what art really is. Dean explores the idea that the word “art” is used far too often and too habitually, and that as we study the non-Western cultures we need to use much more discretion regarding what we call the different pieces of their culture. Throughout the essay, Dean supports her thesis that we too often categorize non-Western pieces as art by using different examples of how certain non-art pieces were deemed as art throughout the course of their history. Dean does this by using four key examples of how these ancient pieces are inappropriately called art to successfully support her thesis and avoid biases.

A Century of Artists Books is an exhibition that ran at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City from October 23, 1994 to January 24, 1995. This exhibition was organized and curated by Riva Castleman, who was the Director of the Department of Prints and Illustrated Books at MoMA from 1976 to 1995. A Century of Artists Books was ultimately formed as a dedication to and a direct continuation of the work of Monroe Wheeler who was director of publications and exhibitions at MoMA. Wheeler had worked with and added to the Louis E. In the essay “Is Art a Waste of Time?” by Ryhs Southan he discusses the purpose of art and explains the group, Effective Altruism. The main argument is that Effective Altruism do not agree with using resources and time on artwork. Effective Altruism is against artwork the resources, and time it uses up that do not contribute to the poor.
Public art can be the display of art in any form of media. In the past, artists have expressed it through paintings, murals, graffiti, performance, sculptures or carvings. Public art can be abstract or realistic. The scale of the art is not important as the message that the piece presents to the public can be inconsequential to it’s size. The role of women in literature crosses many broad spectrums in works of the past and present. Women are often portrayed as weak and feeble individuals that submit to the situations around them, but in many cases women are shown to be strong, independent individuals.
