I am currently reading, Al Capone Does My Homework by Gennifer Choldenko. The main characters are siblings Moose and Natalie Flanagin. If you’re the son of a guard on Alcatraz island in 1936 comes with major responsibilities and problems, especially when your dad gets promoted to associate warden, the number two spot on Alcatraz. The cons on the island create a point system for targeting prison employees. Since wardens are at the top, Moose’s dad could be in big trouble.
Jeffrey Dahmer was born on May 21, 1960 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was known to be an energetic happy little boy until the age of 4 when he had to have surgery to correct a double hernia. People began to notice a change in Dahmer and he became increasingly withdrawn following the birth of his younger brother. His childhood was relatively normal, but as he got older he began to show no interest in hobbies or social interactions. His family frequently moved and his parents divorced when he was in his early teens.

Jeffrey Dahmer was a notorious serial killer who liked to pick up men in bars telling them he was a photographer and he wanted to take their picture. Once at his place he would offer alcohol and drug them so they could not get away. Dahmer was a sadistic sexual serial killer who liked to have control over his victims even after they were dead. Dahmer who would dismember his victims’ bodies often saving their skulls or other body parts also practiced necrophilia and cannibalism.
The early 1900s was the beginning of the prohibition. With the ban of the distribution of all alcohol came the start of organized crime. Many people helped launch the Gangster Era. One in particular became one of the more notorious to do so. His name is John Dillinger.

For the Greeks, much of their mythology deals with Gods, Goddesses, and the afterlife. Deviance has many functions in society. Although deviance violates social norms, without it, we would not have rules, so it helps form, guide, and shape society’s norms and goals. Social norms are different from culture to culture. Norms that may be acceptable in one culture may be frowned upon in another. Emile Durkheim quotes that “deviance and deviant behavior is an integral part of all healthy societies (Adler, 2014, p74).”

Serial Murder, therefore, is a sociologically deviant phenomenon where a person kills two or more people in distinct events, and an FBI overview of serial killers states “No single cause, trait, or even a group of traits can differentiate or identify serial killers … from other types of violent offenders” (FBI). However, use of the sociological perspective to identify potential factors in these cases is possible. As a boy, Jeffrey Dahmer was described as being a loner and a poor student- and had been sexually abused by a neighbor. He is homosexual, which carried a negative stigma during most of his lifetime: he was described as appearing to be a gentle, suave man in homosexual circles.
