Imagined the world in a zombie apocalyptic state. Your whole entire life is turned upside down because now you have to scavenge for food, find a source of water, left with no technology, there are people out to get you because you have what they want, and you will need to kill to survive. You would never think of something like a zombie apocalypse ever happening because you only see it in TV shows or movies, but there is a slim chance that some type of epidemic may happen. This book basically tells you what would happen to human nature if something of that sort were to happen. I would have never realized that the characters in The Walking Dead changed because of what they are surrounded by. For example, in the book, the apocalypse is compared to war. The characters suffer from PTSD in their own unique way because of the act of killing, just like the soldiers out in combat (Langley 78). The characters have adapted to their surroundings as much as they can but they can only do so much. When the whole group is trying to find a new shelter, they compare it to how life once was. They need a bed, some place to cook, running water, and a private place, but they are no longer fortunate to have something like that anymore. Because of that, a quote from Shane Walsh sticks out, “Nostalgia, it’s like a drug.” This impacts the book and the whole story line greatly because all they want in life is to go back to how things once were. They always reference life before the epidemic happened and they want to take refugee in a place where they can live their life to
