Pop culture, or popular culture, is defined as the ideas, perspectives, attitudes, memes, and other phenomena that is favored by the mainstream population in a culture (Crossman). It is the accumulation of cultural merchandise such as music, art, literature, fashion, dance, film, cyber culture, television, and radio. Pop culture is largely swayed by mass media. After World War II ended, change in mass media led to remarkable changes in cultural and social environments. The origins of the appearance of popular culture was traced by scholars to the middle class of the Industrial revolutions.
The father of pop culture is known to be Andy Warhol. He went to school at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, there he studied pictorial design(Andy Warhol). There are mass amounts of cultural bases that can be touched and captivated through TV shows which have a large impact on the younger and older audiences. Television is produced and shown to a mass audience which is why it is considered pop culture. There is different aspects of television that can be considered pop culture, such as the TV shows themselves or actors on television(30 Best Actors). A popular television show today is The Walking Dead. Some other popular television shows are Orange Is the New Black, Game of Thrones, and Arrow. Pop culture in television also deals with actors and actresses. One popular actor is David Tennant, who stars in Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and Jessica Jones. He is an iconic figure in pop culture because of the large diversity of television shows and movies he stars in. By having such a broad spectrum of genres he is able to cover, is why he has such a large fan base in the pop culture scene. Some other popular television actors in today’s world are Terry O’ Quinn, Bryan Cranston, and Michael C.
