I read the book called the Wednesday wars by Gary D. Schmidt. The book is about a boy named Holling Hoodhood who is in seventh grade and his teacher, Mrs. Baker. The story takes place mainly in school or at Holling’s home. The first main event is when Holling finds out he is the only one that doesn't leave school early on Wednesdays because of Hebrew school or catechism. Also, when Holling let the rats go, it caused a lot of trouble through the story.
The book that is going to discussed in this essay is The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt. It is about a boy named Holling and his teacher named Mrs. Baker. This is going on during The Vietnam war. Holling thinks that Mrs. Baker is a mean teacher, but he has to stay with her every wednesday, because he is Presbyterian and everyone in his class goes to Catholic or Hebrew school. Yuri Kochiyama is a Japanese-American civil rights activist, and author of “Then Came the War” in which she describes her experience in the detention camps while the war goes on. December 7th, is when Kochiyama life began to change from having the bombing in Pearl Harbor to having her father taken away by the FBI. All fishing men who were close to the coast were arrested and sent into detention camps that were located in Montana, New Mexico and South Dakota. Kochiyama’s father had just gotten out of surgery before he was arrested and from all the movement he’d been doing, he begun to get sick. Close to seeing death actually, until the authorities finally let him be hospitalized.
Stanley Ironmonger was a young man who signed up to join the war at age 22. Born in Suton, England he enlisted at Casula, Australia (Western Sydney). Before Ironmonger enlisted to join the war he was a local fireman who drove steam trains. Not much has been discovered about his life before the war including his family. The only family that is known to us is his Uncle Thomas Rixon, who Ironmongers will was sent to.
Not letting your child go to college is not letting them have a chance to have a life. This relates to a girl named Heather and her father in the The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt. Heather was in a business with her father that she was forced to work in. When her family and her were sitting at the dinner table, she was talking about how she was going to college and her dad interrupted her saying that she’s not going to college and she is perfectly fine in the business that she is in not going anywhere. I don’t think that Heather’s dad has good attitude towards her.
In both books, readers are able to understand the motives of the war, attitudes of Americans and the hostility of battles through the letters of soldiers.

Coffman writes from the point of view of the soldiers who were actually involved in the battles of World War I. Coffman set out to write a history of the American military experience in World War I, it was apparent he had two major goals in writing this book “The War to End All Wars: The American Military Experience in World War I.” He starts by telling us how American was not prepared and appeared to be confused in many aspects of the war.
The second book is The Veldt. The Veldt is a story written by Ray Bradbury which is set in a futuristic world where technology has advanced to the point where people have electronic nurseries
Also, by reading these two books we get to understand how people in the past wanted these to be published for us to read.
The Most Dangerous Game Conflicts All stories have to have a conflict, the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell has three important conflicts. Man against man, man against nature, man against himself are the three main conflicts that take place. For man against man Rainsford and General Zaroff are fighting each other in the hunting ‘game’. For man against nature Rainsford is fighting the sea once he hears the gunshots and is trying to get out of the water.
The book The Best War Ever, by Michael C. C. Adams, is about World War II, the events that led up to the war, and the years following the war. Adams starts the book off explaining some myths that people have about the war. The biggest myth associated with the war is that it was the best war ever. Adams then spends the rest of the book talking about why this may or may not be true. In the following chapters, Adams explains the events that led to the war and the events that accorded during World War II.
Conflict is very important to a story it makes it interesting, some stories have one conflict some have more than one. A great example of multiple conflicts in a story is in “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell man versus man is the most relevant conflict. Man versus nature is the first conflict seen in the story. Man versus himself is a conflict between Rainsford, the story's protagonist, and himself throughout the short story. In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, there is man versus man, man versus nature and man versus himself.

It materialized around the 14th century in Florence, Italy, and lasted until the 17th century. Italy's history & geography supported Renaissance thought. The restoration of classical art, literature, and music was increasingly emphasized during this time.
The the book “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, has lots of challenges and conflicts throughout the whole story. Two hunters are on a yacht in the Caribbean Sea, when one falls off and washes up on an island. There, he meets General Zaroff, a man with only one desire. To hunt humans. He makes Rainsford (the man from the shipwreck), go loose on the island in order to hunt him.
