Introduction The case study “the Wolf Who Wanted to be King of the World” was a case done by Dr. Eliana Gil, a therapist, author, and trainer or others in her field. This case involved a family of four looking for guidance regarding their young son’s misbehaviour in school. This essay will discuss this case, including presenting problems, family history, and how it concluded. It will then look into what interventions and techniques Dr. Gil used and how they were beneficial for the family. Then finally, this essay will look at what other approaches could have been used to assist this family with their needs.
Summary of the Case Study This case involved the concerns of parents Sharon and Nick, of their son, Nathan’s, behaviour at school. Nathan’s school had threatened expulsion if he did not go to counselling, hence why they were there. Neither parent knew an exact cause of Nathan’s misbehaviour, but both parents blamed each other. Nick stated that it was caused by Sharon going too easy on Nathan and coddling him, while Sharon stated that Nathan was dealing with anger management, which he had got from his father. It was learned later that there was a family history of domestic abuse. Nick had both verbally and physically abused Sharon and Nathan. Eliana Gil was an excellent example of the use of play therapy. The case examined the benefits of using play when working with children for the entire family. The approach that Dr. Gil used was so effective that it is clear that it would be beneficial for many families looking for counselling in the future. I liked Dr. Gil’s approach, but if I had to change one thing I would likely just change the type of play to give it more direction toward the anger management and behavioural issues that Sharon was describing as the concerns for her son in the
