There’s A Light at the End of Every Tunnel The main point of this essay is to explore why the writing process is different for every person. In particular, my own writing process is unique, because of three factors, which include goal setting, procrastination and reward. The rhetorical situation is composed of the topic of the writing, the purpose of the writing and who the intended audience is. Depending upon the specific genre of the text these three components can differ greatly. The genre of this essay in particular is informational. This is putting certain things off until the last minute, which are crucial to one’s success. This affects my writing in a poor way. One main reason that people procrastinate writing, is that their ideas are jumbled together and not clearly thought through. When something is ignored until the last minute, the main concern shifts from doing a good job, to completing the assignment moments before it is due. This does not allow enough time for someone to actually think about their paper and to answer the prompt thoroughly (with accurate information). Another reason that procrastinating poorly affects my writing is that the foremost main points are easily forgotten about. When I was a senior in high school, procrastination was my middle name. I understand that procrastination is like a way of life in high school, but once you get to college it is important to drop poor habits and form better ones. This is paramount to your success as a college writer, to avoid the evils of procrastination, rewards are often presented for the completion of each step at a certain time well before your assignment is actually due. In regards to the writing process, reward means receiving small things that I take pleasure in having, which will ultimately motivate me to continue writing and reach the end of the assignment with great success. At the completion of each small stage of writing, I reward myself with something small such as caramel frappes or dinner at chipotle. These are certain things that I do not receive often, but when I do, my mood is immediately boosted and I feel motivated to keep going and continue with my writing. At the completion of the entire assignment, I reward myself with one big thing and this could range from a manicure and pedicure, to a short shopping spree at my favorite store. Every person who has a struggle keeping up with their writing assignments should use rewards as a tool in order to stay on the right track. The rewards that are given should be something that the author themselves
