Todd Beamer from flight 93 and Let’s Roll, by Lisa Beamer, put the safety of those on the ground before the safety of his own life: “It’s what we have to do”(Beamer 212). Todd was scared for the his life and the other passenger’s lives. Todd and the other passengers overthrew the plane and crashed it in an empty field, saving countless lives and the White House. This sacrifice is a great example of bravery, as the way the passengers rebelled against the terrorists is very courageous and brave. The actions of the passengers resulted in saving many people on the ground, along with saving the White House.
MDG In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Rainsford is on a boat out in the middle of the sea with his friend Whitney that are going on a hunting trip together. While there out a storm comes and Rainsford is smoking a pipe and it falls out of his hand and he leans over and tries to grab it, but instead they hit a rough patch and ends up and falling in the deep shivering sea. Rainsford struggles to stay afloat, he watches as the boat slowly disappears until he can't see it at all. Rainsford ends up and finding himself on a little island where he meets General Zaroff.
Laurie Colwin (1944-1992) was born in Manhattan, New York. She was a prolific writer and her very first works were published in the New Yorker. Her first short story collection was published in 1974. Her stories were written about love, relationships, and being happy in general, however, this story “The Man Who Jumped into the Water” is quite a bit different from the others. Hiding behind a persona to get away from reality can lead someone to a breaking point because a person 's troubles catch up to them.
Horrific events can turn into days of remarklable wonder. In the story, “The Long Nights of the Little Boats,” by Basil Heatter, British troops were overrun by German Soldiers in Dunkirk. beThe need for them to be saved united thousands of random Englishmen to come to their rescue. The character of these men made them be the good people who came to the rescue of the soldiers. Positive Human traits make people successful which was witnessed by little boat rescuers traits, the soldiers traits, and my own personal traits.
The Missing Ark: Analysis of Loss in “Destroyed by the Waters” by Rachel Swirsky Derek saying, "You can't even tell anything was here", is how Swirsky immediately introduces him as a character dealing with loss in “Destroyed by the Waters”(1). “How to cope with loss?”, is a question thematically seen after reading the short story, and is prevalent as a fundamental question concerning life, in many texts, notably the Christian Bible. The Bible shares similarities with the short story, and is alluded to after Zack and Derek’s son, Noah is mentioned. The allusions of the Bible in “Destroyed by the Waters”, aid in answering the fundamental question of “How to cope with loss?”, and retell a realistic“Noah’s Ark”.

The Color of Water is a memoir of James McBride’s life. James tells us about his struggles of childhood. In The Color of Water he went through phases which ranged between good and bad. James began to hang around with the wrong crowds and that did not develop him in a good way. He found out how it would affect him in the long run and decided to change how he was living.
Although these issues sound incredibly awful for a human being to endure, many of the men he helped along the way survived because of him. A member of the United States Air Force, the chance of crashing on a mission became inevitable, and Louie’s aircraft plunged into the ocean; a difficult decision soon faced him when a member of his crew was injured during the crash: “Louie knew that he had to get Phil’s bleeding stopped, but if he went to him, the raft would be lost and all of them would perish. He swam to the raft”(131). Louie’s fast actions and quick-witted solutions ultimately saved himself and his remaining crew from the danger-filled Pacific. For instance, Louie’s decision to rescue the raft from floating away ensured the men had some type of protection from the elements.
It was so memorable because the man in the water had a chance to save himself, but instead he has been saving everyone. That’s why it sticks in our minds for a long time. The next thing is, Rosenblatt believes that the guy in the water is powerful and
The following quote shows what people had to do just to help themselves and other loved ones. “I tried to run to her, but the dog wouldn’t let me go, and then the dog was gone and a boot came swinging and I was kicked so hard I popped off the ground. When I landed, a club pounded my shoulders and I was kicked again and the Jackboot was dragging me by the hair and there was laughing and clacking of Jackdog teeth. The Jackboot flung me against a wall.
The plane then sunk into the Potomac River, leaving passengers fighting for their lives. Only six of the seventy four passengers survived and one of the passengers lived to tell the story of the man who risked his own life while fighting to save everyone else ’s. In the article “The Man in the Water,” by Roger Rosenblatt, the theme is heroism.
In order to survive in this world, people sometimes go to great lengths. Everyone, no matter what, have survival instincts that push them to overcome the obstacles they confront. In the magazine article, “ The Lost Boys,” three young African refugees survived predators, starvation and dehydration. Now they are hoping to start a new, better life in America.
Beloved Word Essay: Water Motherhood is a major theme of Toni Morrison’s Beloved, as multiple characters often lament the futile extent to which they can be mothers. In Chapter 5 Beloved, the reader is introduced to two new motherhood dynamics, both relating to the mysterious Beloved. Wherever motherhood is mentioned, water imagery—with its established connections to birth, healing, and life—used as well. Because it factors into Beloved’s symbolic “birth” and nurturing, water is an important image that relates to giving and sustaining life and motherhood in Beloved.
Thesis: When life is on the line, a lot of people will go back to animistic forms of dealing with situations. A sort of fight or flight response to the problem at hand, and this can go one of two ways. You act for your own well being, or the well being of others natures other calling. When this happens, people are seen as one of two things, you will be survivors or heroes. So it is no surprise that the "man in the water" became so famous, he chose that he was less important than others, he went into "hero" mode as I like to call it.
In the “Cost of Survival,” an argumentative essay, in which; voices the opinion of Theo Tucker, an individual that believes that some people “willingly put themselves into life-or-death situations,” (126) also he explains, how if these risky decisions end in needed rescue missions. Therefore, said people should pay for the cost of their rescues, because individuals that do things like “mountain climb and base jump, knowingly face danger.” (126) The author stands on the side of the argument that, these rescue missions or “efforts, can cost a lot of money, and that “The adventurer should be the one to foot the bill” (126)
