In Scratch beginnings, Adam Shepard tells the story from a homeless persons point of view to show appreciativeness. Shepard says “More than anything else over the course of my project, I grew to appreciate, even more than before , that we live in the greatest country in the world.” (213). By becoming homeless and leaving everything he had makes him a lot more encountered in working hard for what he wanted and where he wanted to get in life. For example, He worked a low paying job at the car wash while trying to find a better job, and he doesn’t spend money on food in order to save money for his apartment.
(“Fisher”page63). He was months behind on payments, but he still didn’t want to give up. So he had to be strong. He had a friend that said he would help him in his hard times, and so he did.
In “Homeless on Campus” author, Kingsborough Community College English Department Instructor, Eleanor Bader explains the increasing amount of homeless students and ways the public can help get them into various necessary living situations. Bader has two main audiences whom she is addressing. The first audience is homeless students. This report helps homeless students feel as if their voice is being heard and that they are not the only ones going through this. The second audience is teachers and college faculty members.

After that, Bader tells us how LeTendre Education Fund for Homeless Children, a scholarship program administered by the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth, is helping some of the homeless students across America. It is hard to imagine life as a homeless family. I hope that I’ll never have to move my family from shelter to shelter as some families must do every day. According to the essay “Homeless” by Anna Quindlen, we should take more time in our lives to see the pain that homelessness creates. I agree with Anna Quindlen’s assertion that a home is everything. A home can provide certainty.

In While I Was Away by Waka T. Brown, Waka's perspective and advice about growing up is to focus on what makes you happy and not on others' opinions of you. For instance, near the end of the story Waka realizes "It was time to leave my group, time to stop being who I wasn't. It was time for me to be me" (Brown 236). This shows how Waka had been influenced by the opinions of others, causing her to lose touch with her true self. However, she has now made the decision to prioritize her own happiness and disregard others' opinions of her.
Prior to reading this novel I had never considered why the homeless were homeless. I always just stereotyped them and assumed that they were alcoholics or drug addicts and that it was their own fault that they were on the streets. The idea that there would be any other reasoning for their homelessness never crossed my mind. “I think that maybe sometimes people get the lives they want,” (Walls 256).
Homeless In “Homeless” written by Anna Quildlen, she writes about a woman—homeless—that she met named Ann passing through the Port Authority terminal. While Quildlen is convince that the shelter is an alternative for homeless to somewhere to stay, instead of living on the street or any bus station, Ann explains that shelter cannot replace the impression of a real home. Personally, I do not like and absolutely did not enjoy the concept and the message that the essay was trying to portray. The essay was well written, however; I found it deeply delicate and societally manipulated.
In his seminal article in the New Yorker recounting a story of a homeless alcoholic man, Gladwell (2006) observed that homelessness costs the taxpayers considerably and focus ought to be given to housing provision and supportive care. According to Gladwell (2006),

The Hobo omits any direct personal accounts from Anderson, but his perspective has given him an advantage in connecting with his interview subjects and with his writing. The Hobo is the first of his works and provided a foundation for him to develop his unique ethnographic approach that incorporates his personal experience with unstructured interviews and statistical data to paint a picture of the homeless
According to the Suitcase Clinic organization homelessness means a temporary condition that people fall into when they cannot afford to pay for a place to live, or when their current home is unsafe or unstable. (Suitcase Clinic Organization ) Main reasons being homeless: cyclical nature of mental health/ substance abuse, unavailability of affordable accommodation-waiting lists for public housing and lack of reasonably priced houses. For example, in UK and USA housing stocks are unaffordable.
