My book is The Haunting of Gabriel Ashe written by Dan Poblocki. It is about a boy named Gabriel that has recently moved to his Grandmother's house with his family after their family home burnt to the ground. Gabe meets a neighbor boy named Seth who invites him to play the ‘Hunters Game’. The game begins to take over Gabe's mind and he begins to wonder if the game is actually real or make believe. Gabe Ashe is the narrator of the story.

The book “Forged by Fire” by Sharon M. Draper is a book with many themes and lessons we all can learn. One of the themes that this essay will talk about will be about loyalty. For one thing, loyalty is a strong feeling because it’s something that comes from inside of a person to have faith in someone. Also the fact that we’re all loyal to someone, someone who’s special in our lives and plays a major role in our lives that drags us to support them no matter what. In this book, Gerald gets abused by his drunk, ferocious father whom he absolutely abominates.
The theme that I choice for Tangerine is “Sometimes good change can come from bad situations.” An example of the theme is when the Lake Windsor school gets swallowed up by a sinkhole. Although it ruined art of the school and many students were hurt, Paul had a chance to change his life. The book A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, the main character Ismael Beah tells a story of his first hand account of Sierra Leone’s civil war. Ismael Beah was a boy soldier who went from village to village with his brother and some friends in search of food and shelter. Beah was eventually brainwashed into thinking that what the group was doing would make up for his own family’s death. While his is fighting for the government he is heavily drugged to the point that he believes that what he is doing is the right thing. His lieutenant ended up letting him go with UNICEF so they can have better lives.
The main idea of “The Charmer” is the changing perspective the protagonist Winifred has on the tragedies befallen on her family. Family conflict is a predominant theme in the story and all members of her family directly face it. The narrator uses her elder brother Zach’s smothered childhood, charming personality and rebellious nature to create internal family conflict. The narrator begins her story as a young girl who, along with her two sisters and mother, unconditionally serves Zach as his obedient slaves.
The book I chose to read for my book review was “ Killing Mr.Griffin”. It is about 5 high school students who hate their english teacher Mr. Griffin and come up with a plan to kidnap him. Their main purpose is to just torture and make Mr. Griffin think he is going to die. The plan takes a tragic turn and results in Mr. Griffin's death. The plan simply falls apart in a domino effect of terror and grief.
Yarn Retreat is a series of popular cozy mystery novels by American author Betty Hetchman. Set in northern California, the novels feature Dessert chef Casey Feldstein as the chief protagonist. Feldstein was first introduced to Hetchman fans in the 2013 published novel Yarn to Go. As opposed to other cozy mystery protagonists, Casey Feldstein is not an expert in the main theme of the series – crocheting. The novels begin with the death of Casey’s aunt who dies suddenly leaving her a yarn retreat business at the slightly creepy conference center and hotel premises.

In the short story Catch the Moon, by Judith Ortiz Cofer, the character Luis learns to “swim” with the assistance of the power of love. Cofer creates this story with the underlying message, grief has negative effects on people, however, love has the power to overcome the obstacles created by grief.
The theme of The Wizard of Oz is, “There is no place like home.” One reason that this is the theme is that for one, Dorothy’s mission throughout The Wizard of Oz is to get back home to Kansas and Aunt Em. This shows that “There is no place like home” by implying that Dorothy wanted to get back home, because no matter what she thought, she really did belong in Kansas with her family. Another example is that Dorothy had one thing in Kansas that she did not have in Oz, and that was safety. As long as Dorothy was in Oz, she was never really safe, because of the Wicked Witch of the West, and other events that put Dorothy in danger.
