I believe that Steve Harmon is innocent. There are many reasons to believe this. For one “bobo” Evans placed him at the crime scene but Mr. Evans and Mr. King according to Mr. Evans testimony were on drugs. So Steve Harmon could have just happened to be their. Since both Mr. Evans and Mr. King were on drugs i don’t believe that their statements are valid.

If you were blamed for a crime you didn’t do, would you let that accusation go and let it tarnish your reputation? Would you let it fly by and have others judge from every angle? No, right? Normally people who get accused of crimes demand justice as they know they did not commit the crime and only justice can give them the freedom they deserve. But let’s look at Steve Harmon, the main character from the book Monster by Walter Dean Myers who was on trial for murder.
Nevertheless, she makes connections with people in the prison, and she keeps in contact with the people when they are released. This shows that the Released and Restored people cannot be emotional for the prison is a tough place, but it has a lot to offer. The last major them Karlsson gives is that all prisoners are regular people, and that we should encourage inmates to do good things rather than stereotype them. In society today people are labeled as things they are not. In the book Monster, Steve Harmon is labeled as a monster for a crime he did not participate in. The book has a lot of people that are involved with the crime that was committed, but the main character is a 16-year-old boy who is accused of murder, theft or just being there as the lookout. The 16-year-olds name is Steve Harmon. Steve was the lookout for the robbery but was not a part of Mr. Nesbitt’s death.
A. Life in prison is not the path any average person wanders down, or perhaps even plan for. Also, it is safe to assume that any person who has been to prison would let the outsiders know that is not fun, nor is it a life anyone devotes to living. In Michael G. Santos’s book, Inside: Life Behind Bars in America, Santos explains what living behind bars in America is like. Unlike most of the population in prison for violent offenses, Santos was in prison for the opposite reasons: a major drug bust. Santos was also sentenced to federal prison, instead of a state/local prison, for forty-five years which stemmed from a high-profile cocaine bust that occurred in Miami, Florida.
He uses his mind as a way to transcend from the actual reality of him being in a jail cell. Ever since Jimmy was young he was in, and out of jail roaming the streets of his neighborhood. Ever Since age 17, he worked graveyard shifts at St. Joseph’s hospital,“...mopping up pools of blood and carting plastic bags stuffed with arms, legs, and hands to the outdoor incinerator.” (pg.100).
During the poem “Hard Rock Returns to Prison from the Hospital for the Criminal Insane” by Etheridge Knight, the inmates spoke very highly of all the bad things Hard Rock has done in prison. Hard Rock was known strictly for his violent behavior. When he returned from the hospital to the prison the atmosphere began to change right before the inmates’ eyes. Hard rock was no longer that powerful source that the inmates could depend on. His mind had been instructed to present pleasant behavior.
The reading begins by explaining that prison violence occurs because violent people and people from violent subcultures are the people who inhabit prisons and because of their violent nature we have prison violence. Conversely, Penal Reform International article suggested different reasons to reform prisons one that stood out to reform the particular prison in Alabama was this, Provide a healthy, safe environment. “Spaces that are filled with sunlight, outside views, therapeutic color schemes and normalized materials, encourage inmates’ participation, reduce stress, incidents and assaults and decrease staff absenteeism.”
After working with these men for months, you begin to look past the societal mask they are forced to wear due to their past mistakes, and begin to see them as real genuine people.
