The two possible themes would include self-doubt and reflection on past decisions. The story line within the book includes Steve Harmon’s misconception in himself and who he has become. This shows the doubt in the screenplay of the story and Steve’s journal, where he mentions whether or not knowing himself as a normal human being versus a suspect on trial for murder. “They say you get used to being in jail, but I don’t see how. Every morning I wake up and I am surprised to be here. If your life outside was real, then everything in here is just the opposite.” (pg. 2-3) Getting used to a new reality is not the easiest to get used to, getting used to the reality of being in jail is more complicated than the reality of a normal, innocent life,
