The Night Circus written by Erin Morgenstern a story of two lovers constrained by a magic challenge forcing them to compete against each other in a fight to the death. Three of the most prominent themes in this novel is the ambition to pursue one’s dream, at the same time keeping an optimistic viewpoint, and also a theme of the inability to separate passion from obsession. The Night Circus is an abitious illusionary fairy tale set near an ahistorical London setting in the late 19th century. A wandering magical circus that is open only from sunset to sunrise, most widely known as Le Cirque des Rêves. Marco and Celia become obsessed with winning the challenge and keep on competing until they have reached their limits. An example of the challenge continuing between the two is how Marco creates the bonfire in retaliation to Celia's display of magic to counteract her creations of the carousel, wishing tree, and the tent with jars of Popet's stories. In his attempt to compete with Celia, Marco created the bonfire with the symbols burned in them. As a result, nobody is able to escape from the circus or enter it, which means that if the circus is unable to continue, inwhich creating the exact opposite of Marco's intention to keep the circus going and together. Through the later parts of the novel, Celia and Marco become obsessed with each other so much they unintentionally fall in love. Allowing Celia to forget her father told her to stay away from her compeditor, instead paying no attention to his words. Eventually her love for Marco becomes so strong she profoundly thinks about suicide as she ponders Marco being her compeditor in a challenge of a fight to the death they are both sworn to and would rather sacrafice herself instead of killing
