“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.” Do you know who said that quote?If you’re guessing the Author of “The Cat in the Hat” then outstanding. His name is Theodor Seuss Geisel or also best known as Dr. Seuss.
On March 2nd, 1904 Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in Springfield Massachusetts. Theodor was teased for being a German American. His grandfather had emigrated to America in the 19th Century during the first World War. Theodor attend Oxford where he does not earn a M.A. in English but does meet Helen Palmer. One day after class Helen looks at Theodor’s note book. She said to him “You’re crazy to be a professor. In 1941 Seuss begins his career as a political cartoonist, ultimately publishing over 400 cartoons in the New York newspaper P.M.. Some of his Cartoons make fun of and mock the leaders of WWII like Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Hideki Tojo. Dr, Seuss went into the army at the age of 38, where he makes documentary films.

In 1937, he writes his first “And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street” was published.The number one book Dr. Seuss wrote was “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” Published in 1957.
The Cat In The Hat” was Dr. Seuss’s thirteenth published book that was published in March 1957. Ted wrote “The Cat in the Hat” because he was worried that children were not learning how to read. In the first interview he gave after the book’s publication, he said that the image of the cat inspired the book. The Cat in the Hat sold nearly a million copies by the end of 1960.
