Theodore Roosevelt was our nation’s twenty-sixth president. Roosevelt is the youngest president to ever hold office. While some of his policies went against the grain, we believe that he was overall very effective and helped to make the country a better place. One that came to my mind was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. I believe he made one of the biggest impacts on this country as a president. He helped America get through a very difficult time and lead us through more.
On December 8th, 1941 Franklin Delano Roosevelt delivered a speech to the House of Representatives, Members of the Senate, the House Speaker, to the Vice President, and to the American people. Franklin spoke of the incident of the attack on Pearl Harbor the day after it occurred. Mr. Roosevelt was stern and concise. He spoke on the occasion of tragedy to inform the House and the American people what the Japanese have done.
It is hard to believe Theodore Roosevelt was never supposed to become the President due to all of his significant contributions to the office and to the United States. Roosevelt agreed to be the Vice President of McKinley knowing that, assuming the role would end his political career. However, following the assassination of William McKinley, Roosevelt was brought back into politics where he became the President. Roosevelt was different from other presidents in that he saw the office as a legislative leader, brought many reforms that benefit modern America today, and handled challenges in a quick manner.
I am an American citizen and if I were listening to FDR’s speech it would affect me strongly. When FDR read his speech, he explained that the Empire of Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor. Right away we knew we might be in grave danger. The President then went on to say how we were “at peace with that nation,” and that we did not expect Japan to do this. Before the attack, both countries were not friendly with each other but still tried to not cause any trouble.

In Calvin Coolidge’s autobiography he retells his life from a young boy establishing the characteristics that made him a good vice president and ultimately president. In the novel he depicts the life lessons he learned from those around him whether good or bad. The value of experience is abundantly perspicuous throughout his life because with every event that he recounts for there is a growth in character. Countries all around the world use memorials and tributes to honor historical events and great leaders. These structures help build national pride and unity. Memorials can be found throughout the United States in just about every city to commemorate anything and everything ranging from local community leaders to Civil War battlefields. The idea of creating a monument similar to Mount Rushmore to commemorate more recent leader of this country is one I believe most of the U.S. would support.
Theodore Roosevelt’s speech, Strength and Decency, included a variety of rhetorical strategies that allowed him to persuade educated, mature, and, strong men to become powerful and decent human beings. Roosevelt’s purpose of presenting this speech was to persuade the audience to behave like the strong men they are but with decency and manners because, in the 1900s, men behaved in a very manly fashion. However, men lacked manners and morality. Due to the very questionable propriety of men, Roosevelt was driven to address how men should act the way a real mature man would in order to further improve society. By using rhetorical strategies such as repetition, Christian appeal, and a serious tone, Roosevelt is able to show his audience how strength and decency go hand in hand.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt's first hundred days began on March ninth in 1933. The hundred days stretched out to June sixteenth, 1933. The hundred days term came about very suddenly. On inauguration day March forth he gave forth to the American people an inspiration to new hope. He declared that the “money changers” who brought distress to America that they were evil and he declared that there must be a wage war on the Great Depression.
