Theodore Roosevelt was our nation’s twenty-sixth president. Roosevelt is the youngest president to ever hold office. While some of his policies went against the grain, we believe that he was overall very effective and helped to make the country a better place.

Historical Context:
Theodore Roosevelt took the presidency directly after the assassination of the president before him. Even though his ascension was a surprise, Roosevelt still rose to the challenge. Roosevelt entered the presidency when a strong leader was very much needed. Big businesses were running American and someone needed to step in. These businesses would charge whatever price they saw fit and buy out their competitors in order to make more money for themselves.

However he also entered the presidency with no domestic affairs in mind. He did manage to accomplish many domestic affairs well in office despite not having any plans. He helped to push many pieces of progressive legislation through Congress to better the lives of Americans across the country. Prior to the Canal, ships and carriers would have to travel around the entirety of South America in order to get to the other side of the United States.
