This project represents a personal connection to my life because it is all about me and my life. It also has pictures from my life. 2. My project represents transmediation by having pictures that represent every word I used for each letter in the alphabet. Each picture I used represents exactly what I talked about on that page.
In “An Indian Father’s Plea” by Robert G. Lake-Thom, Lake-Thom uses transitions to help connect his ideas and create a well written essay. In the twelfth paragraph the author discusses the knowledge that his son possessed before he began going to the school he is currently attending. Since Lake-Thom is listing the knowledge his son possessed before starting at that school he uses the transitional expression “and” frequently in this paragraph. Lake-Thom also repeatedly uses the transitional expression “but” when he says that while his son may not be able to do something that other non-Indian children his age can do such as writing their names he has knowledge of other things that those children don’t have. Transition Sentence:When the chickasaw arrived they were regarded as fierce warriors. This is probably because they were surrounded by Europeans or other tribes who might've posed a threat to them. Thesis Statement: I would discuss what the chickasaw eat, what clothing they wear, and where they were located.
Some use of transitions to help clarify relationships between ideas and paragraphs. Weak transitions: Intro jumpy; Body paragraphs not connected. Lacking or weak transitions.
For instance, the author tells how the poodle used to be a hunting dog and the reason why its hair was cut with a lions main was because then the dog could swim better. FINISH As the reader going through the essay each paragraph leads into the next creating a nice flow throughout the essay. I found that the organization of the essay was chronological and made sense as a whole. Each paragraph was evidence that supported the argument/conclusion. Although I thought there was too much evidence to support the argument the organization of the essay was spot on.
Before I knew all of the guidelines for this project, I had started to write. I wrote whatever I felt like writing. Then I had to decide if I was going to keep what I had written, or if I wanted to get rid of it and start all over. I liked what I had written, and I wanted to keep it, but I had to figure out if it was possible for me to shape it into following the structure of a vignette from House On Mango Street. Instead of analyzing others writing, I had to analyze my work to find my over arching theme, and see if I was using any figurative language
The short sentences are declarative and communicate they project authority and confidence;. Paragraph 4 makes the connection between the revolutions that made up this country and the generation hard feeling toward the nearest world war. 7. When you give the reader a visual representation of a concept, they are able to put themselves in the situation and relate.
“They’ll turn us into writing robots”, a student contends against the use templates influencing the structure of their essays. (10) In the book “They Say/ I Say”: The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing, Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein insist that the use of their relevant templates provide tools that will enhance the readers writing skills. These templates provide an exemplary format that one can use when writing an essay. Graff and Birkenstein suggests that, “Instead of focusing solely on abstract principles of writing, then, this book offers model templates that help you put those principles directly into practice.”
Thesis Statement (Main Argument/Preview of Points): Outlines your argument/theme. Law should usually be followed, but there are certain circumstances such as if you love someone, a law crosses your morals and if the law is unfair or unequal. BODY PARAGRAPH #1: This first paragraph should focus on how conflicts support theme. I. Topic Sentence: States the literary element and introduces how it supports your theme.
Imagine a life where everything seems to revolve around one important element. And just as everything seems to be going well, it all changes within a matter of seconds. In the novel Shark Girl by Kelly Bingham, the protagonist, Jane Arrowood, had to experience this. She had a strong passion for drawing, but she was required to have her dominant arm amputated because of a shark attack. As she recovered slowly in the hospital, she showed her true inner strength when she learned to draw and write with her other hand.
Before the start of this class, I overused common imagery such as “shine bright like a diamond” to try to convey my feelings. Writing with clichéd imagery dilutes the reader’s attachment to the story because emotions are absent. In this class, I have learned that I have to reflect on my true feelings and emotions before writing. Hopefully allows my readers to feel what I once felt. My favorite imagery that I have written in this class was the spider web in the essay about my grandfather.
The Search For a New America The Searchers, directed by John Ford, First comes across as a heroic journey of an uncle and nephew in the dangerous wild west on the search of their kidnapped loved one. However, as the story progresses, we see an even deeper meaning and emotionally complex significance behind their journey. As the story unravels we find that our supposed protagonist is the highly flawed Ethan Edwards, played by John Wayne, is an Indian-hating civil war veteran that was always seen as an outsider from the moment he entered the first frame. The film techniques used in this film include framing shots,non-diegetic elements, western conventions, high and low angle shots and close ups.
People say a picture is worth a thousand words. Just about every picture has rhetorical elements incorporated into their design. In this case, the well-crafted poster for Steven Spielberg’s film, Jaws, implements the use of ethos, pathos and logos in an attempt to get its audience to see the film. The poster for jaws is very effective at gaining the audience’s attention through the use of graphic pictures.
