Have you ever noticed that the voices of others build up your own response? Gaining a perspective on this question is not an easy task to reflect on especially when people’s arguments determines your own. Gerald Graff’s and Cathy Birkenstein’s book, “THEY SAY, I SAY”, abridges their perspective on difficulties students face with persuasive writing. By deliberately including academic templates, the book assists students to overcome their inability of constructing their own arguments, based on what others have said. Covering the first four chapters; “they say”, “I say”, “trying is all together”, and “In specific academic context” I will showcase how Graff and Birkenstein’s book aid students to better express their personal thoughts.
This paper was probably one of the hardest paper I had to write just because I felt like I was on my own. I was scared at first but i felt like this helped me learn how to properly look and analyze a speech or a writing in general. One way this helped was I highlighted what I thought was a rhetorical device and I had to properly analyze it and see what he/ she is trying to accomplish through his or her writing.
Structure like this in classrooms only validates that students are able to argue but, diminishes the opportunities of creating values to the scholarly work and voicing out from the side that share the same opinion as the author. This leads to academic rewards for these arguing students as suggested by Deborah Tannen, leaving the rest to believe that they are not good enough for the academia. While reading Deaf Again, I couldn’t help from thinking, how I would have treated Mark through elementary school and high school. In “Let them die” essay, Kenan Malik assert that endangered languages in the world should be left to dead. In other word, the minority languages should not be preserved, because it is not related to the achievement of “cultural diversity” (Malik, 3). Indeed, he expresses, dying languages should be removed in order to reach the “dynamic and responsive” (Malik, 6) culture. However, the claims that Malik uses in his essay does not tackle the counter argument correctly. In addition, the evidences in the essay is not clear.
The Hate You Give written by Angie Thomas was inspired by a lifetime of events, but the death of Oscar Grant was what prompted Thomas to write her novel. Thomas lived in a poor, black community in Jackson, Mississippi, and was exposed to and witnessed violence on several occasions throughout her young life. She first heard the news of the death of Grant while she was attending a predominantly white university in Jackson where many students made assumptions that Grant was automatically at fault or involved with gangs or drugs. From this event, Thomas realized that the world needed to hear what she had to say in The Hate You Give. Grant 's death by police wasn 't the first nor the last that lead to a community uprising.
The Process of Reflection The process of reflection is central to clinical supervision. Launer (2003) describes external and internal factors in supervision whereby clinical practice and sharing skills are external and reflection is an ‘internal conversation.’ Brunero & Stein-Parbury (2008) discussed the effects of clinical supervision in nursing staff and argued that self-reflection generates a sense of self-awareness and knowledge to the individual. I. SYNTHESIS At the mention of “Divine Revelation”, my thoughts on it before were very narrow and simple. Back then, I would have mostly thought of revelations that occurred during the time when Jesus Christ was still alive. I had this expectation that the revelations would be mostly relating to the prophecies that we know from the bible, or what the church is constantly saying is the message of God.
