In modern and new society people are making new inventions and becoming a “Hero” in their own minds, Thomas is a hero and a villain at the same time, from other people's perspectives. He is like an Anti-hero, where he is good and also bad in the same way. But for the most part, Thomas has been a hero to the Glade and the Shanks, so he also broke some rules that make the people mad in the Glade. Thomas's demeanor was bad because he broke the number 1 rule and he only got put in the Slammer for 1 DAY! In the novel Maze Runner by James Dashner, it says, “Newt said. You broke our bloody Number One Rule, so you get one day in the slammer… In the first hour of the slammer, Thomas felt boredom creep in like rats under the door. By hour 2 he wanted to bang his head against the wall”(Dasher, 166). Thomas when he went into the maze and was being defiant and he just wanted to save Minho and Alby.
