Today, light bulbs and electricity power our homes. Those inventions were all thanks to Thomas Alva Edison. He was an inventor that not only invented the lightbulb, but invented the phonograph and the Universal Stock Printer. His inventions helped move America into a more modern country and a stronger economy. Edison helped build the country into what it is today. Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio into a middle class family. He is a very outgoing and a crazy child, so his mother, Nancy Edison, pulled him out of school. Home taught by his parents, young Edison grew up to love science and poetry, and he had his own chemistry, and newspaper which was called the Weekly Herald.
