How many times have you gone to turn on a light? Did you ever think about Thomas Alva Edison when your light came on? Thomas Edison was a famous inventor who had over one thousand patents for all of his inventions. (A&E Television Networks) Many of those inventions of his helped change our lives forever. One of those inventions was the well-known light bulb.
Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milian, Ohio. In 1854, he attended public school in Port Huron, Michigan for twelve weeks. (Melosi) His mother decided to pull him out of public school, so she could teach him at home. After deciding to teach him at home, she soon discovered his interest in books. Edison began teaching himself by reading many books on various topics that interested him. (A&E Television Networks) In 1876, Thomas Edison moved to Menlo Park, New Jersey. He set up an “invention factory.” On October 21, 1879, while working in the “invention factory,” he invented the light bulb. He issued a patent for his invention on January 27, 1880.

We wouldn’t be able to do a lot of things without the light bulb. There wouldn’t be any headlights in cars, candles would probably be more useful today, it would be very hard to get something out of the refrigerator, it might be hard for some people to drive at night, the Christmas tree might be a little plain around Christmas, and it might be very hard for a dentist to look in your mouth without that light bulb shining into your mouth! The light bulb has improved our daily lives more than you think! You might not be able to use your computer screen without the tiny light bulbs inside. Even though it has been improved upon since it was invented, it still was a pretty good idea! Many people have invented more items that we use daily because of the light bulb. For example, many people use flash lights and computer monitors daily because of the light
