Thomas Hobbes and John Locke were both english philosophers. Thomas hobbes and John locke discussed and developed the social contract theory. The social contract theory was later supported by john locke. This theory was very important to john locke and thomas hobbes because this document explains the relationship between the state and individual. Both thomas and john locke supporters of liberalism. Both of the men were great philosophers in the 17th century. John locke was born in 1632 and he died in 1704. John locke’s parents were puritans, and john was raised that way. John locke also enrolled to westminster school in london. In this school john locke earned the distinct honor of being named a king’s scholar. John locke was chosen out of a lot of boys and girls, and was picked to go the Oxford’s christ church in 1652.
At this church john locke immersed himself in logic and metaphysics. In 1688 john locke was elected a fellow of the royalsociety. Early during his studies in medical, locke met lord Ashley, who was to become Earl of Shaftesbury. John locke and the Earl became really good friends and the Earl convinced john locke to move to london and become his personal physician.
Shaftesbury's influence on locke career and his political thoughts cannot be understood.
