As I walked into the vicinity of the woods, I looked behind me and into the distance before I entered. I stared at the stormy, low lying, smoky clouds that blanketed the sun and prevented its light from creeping through. The baby blue sky and the ray of light that poked out from the edges of the clouds lit up the day. The openness of the surroundings that laid outside the woods became absorbed into my mind and I began to think. I realized that there is so much more out there in the world and the universe. We are but a speck of dust in the vacuum of space, and yet, we are unique. No other place has the beauty of humankind or the attractiveness of the nature that we hold here on our home planet, Earth. Thoreau states, “This is a delicious evening, when the whole body is one sense, and imbibes delight through every pore” (384). In this spot, I sat, absorbing the surroundings of the area, taking in all of the wide landscape into my mind. The wind and sun brighten my mood, and the combination of the two are absorbed spiritually and mentally. I forget of everything that worries me, and I only concentrate on the surroundings. As I looked into the distance, I took in all of what I could see and more. I observed nature at work; the birds singing their song, the trees and grass dancing in the music of the wind, and the overall peacefulness of the area. There I stood, emotionless, with nothing running through my mind but the picture of the beauty that stood in front of me. The wide, flat, dry area reminded me of the plains, with tall, wild grasses that covered the land, and nothing but emptiness and flatness all around. I stood there, amazed, thinking of all of the insects and animals who took shelter in there, and realized that there was more to life than us
