What is theme? Theme is a motive or lesson of great importance that the creator wants us to learn. In the story “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” by Rudyard Kipling, good triumphs over evil is the theme of this amazing, exciting, and deep novella. I absolutely, without a doubt, know this is the theme because for every well behaved character something wonderful happens to them. For every awful character something despicable happens to them also. Henceforth, if you think that accepting a challenge leads to positive results is the theme than honey just keep on searching. During this novella all of the superior characters in this story all get something in return for helping bring bad fortune to the snakes, Nagaina, Nag, and Karait. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi gets rewarded by getting confidence in himself, getting a family to live with, and being the hero of the garden. Darzee and his wife get rewarded because they can now raise baby birds in peace, and don’t have to worry about their babies getting devoured by a snake. Teddy is awarded by not having to worry about being bit by a snake and getting to keep the protagonist for a pet. Teddy’s father and mother get success by not having to be worried for Teddy anymore. Now, I will explain my alternative theme, which is accepting a challenge leads to positive results. There are many ways it could be this theme such as, when Rikki-Tikki-Tavi accepts the difficulty of defeating all the snakes and protecting the garden. Also, the mongoose accepts the complaint of protecting Teddy and his father and mother. These are some ways the theme accepting a challenge leads to positive results could work. There are also many ways it couldn’t work such as when Nagaina accepts the challenge of destroying Rikki and his family, but fails in the process.
