A perfect modern hero that reflects values of society is Kyle Carpenter. Many people know Carpenter as the recipient of the Medal of Honor because of his heroic acts in Afghanistan, but no one knows what he did to earn the highest military award. Carpenter was deployed in Afghanistan in 2010 where he saved the life of his fellow Marine by intentionally throwing himself on a grenade during a Taliban attack. During the incident Carpenter lost his right eye, and also suffered 30 fracture to his right arm with numerous other major and minor injuries.
Secondly, Tim Burton uses costuming as a device in his films to portray his unique style. In his film Edward Scissorhands, his peculiar style is shown through the main character’s wardrobe. Edward, the main character, has uncontrollable, big black hair, and stitched leather clothes. In addition to his crazy black hair and distinct clothes, his hands are made up of many pairs and pieces of scissors, and he has a pale complexion that contains many scars. Burton’s style is shown in Edward because this character is dark, mysterious, and scary.
In Typhoid Fever Frank McCourt, just like any of his other stories, has a unique way of using his voice. Throughout the story, McCourt’s writing lacks quotation marks, which allows for some interpretation of the quote. For example, Frank and Patricia share an exchange saying, “I have black hair. You and millions” (194 McCourt) In the exchange the reader may interpret how each character is speaking to the other. In other words, McCourt’s writing paves the way for some creativity.
In the 2008 film The Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan, it can be argued that the main character Batman is considered morally ambiguous, because even though he is a vigilante the way in which he does things does not always correspond with the law. Batman’s alter-ego Bruce Wayne is a billionaire who dedicates himself to protecting Gotham City from its criminal underworld and from his archenemy, The Joker. One of the reasons Batman can be considered ambiguous is because he does immoral things such as hacking peoples cellphones and using the signals as a map of the city, even though he commits this unethical act, it is all done to protect the city from The Joker.
