The question arises as to what would be the perfect item that would not only tell America’s current story, but also stand the test of time. I asked myself the same question and after weighing the pros and cons, I came up with the perfect answer, a Time ® 100 magazine. Time, I know it sounds clichéd, but here is the reason why it is the perfect candidate. First, it shows who America considers to be the most influential people of that year. Second, the English language, at its core, will not change. I know there still might be skeptics, but let me elaborate for you.

Out of 25 million readers, 20 million are based in the United States. It would be safe to say, that their reputation precedes them. Time ® 100 consists of 5 categories: Titans, Pioneers, Artists, Leaders, and Icons. Based off these 5 categories, whoever opens the capsule would be able to deduce the current mindset of America in 2015-2016. Some might say, why not a CD, Blu-ray ™, or even an iPhone, and as great of question as that is, I would challenge you to think of the longevity of this item. Take for instance the Blu-ray ™. As fast as technology is advancing, there is a strong possibility that when this capsule is open, the technology to play a Blu-ray ™ will be obsolete, and if Blu-ray’s cannot be played, it is hard to believe that CD's would be even a feasible option. Just look at how laptops are designed now. If you have not noticed, they do not even come with a CD player, so I cannot even begin to imagine 20, 30 or even 100 years into the future, what technology would be available to even play these items.
