The Wonderful Wizard of Oz “At once there came running to her from all directions a pack of great wolves.They had long legs fierce eyes and sharp teeth.” (173) That is one of the best quotes from L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. This is a fantasy story with a 7.0 reading level. I chose this book because when I was younger it was my favorite movie. The most important characters are Dorothy, The Tin Woodman, the Scarecrow , and the Cowardly Lion. Dorothy is a young teenager who loves her dog, Toto, and has an urge for adventure. But one day, a cyclone strikes her house and carries it above a desert and to a magical land called Oz. As they got to the land of the west the Witch had visions in her crystal ball that led to her understanding Dorothy and her friends meant harm. The witch was disgusted by these visitors and sent a great pack of wolves, after the wolves got the instructions to kill Dorothy and her friends the wolves tried to savagely attack Dorothy but the Tin Woodman stepped up and cut each off each wolf's head. Next she unleash a swarm of bees to attack but once again the Tin Woodman stands in front and lets each bee sting him but as soon as their stinger fell off they died. Her third option was to send a murder of crows but when they came the scarecrow he stood up and frightened away the birds, the witches last option was to send the winged monkeys they captured dorothy and her friends and took them to the witch's castle where they were imprisoned by the witch. A couple of days after being imprisoned Dorothy got mad at the witch and saw a bucket of water, and poured it on the witch and she melted to the ground like a puddle. Dorothy saw a golden cap and put it in her basket to wear later on their way back to the Emerald City they called for the queen of the field mice who they had saved from a mountain lion earlier, they were wondering about how to get back to the Emerald City the mouse saw the cap and told Dorothy that she could call the winged monkeys with it so Dorothy called them and asked to carry them to the Emerald City the
