The major complication Tina Jones has diabetes, which can affect her eyes, heart, kidney, nerves and feet. In her situation it affect her right foot. I would educate her on nerve damage and how to prevent further infection on her right foot. Patient should know peripheral neuropathy is when the nerve does not work. 1st teach the patient peripheral neuropathy increases he risk of foot ulceration or gangrene. Important teaching is letting the patient know the sign and symptom of nerve damage. Pain and numbness, muscle problem, body organ problems are some of the symptom of nerve damage.
Pain and numbness-early sign is tingling or burning
Muscles problem- it becomes difficult to control muscles and causes muscle weakness.
