Not only does Harper Lee symbolize Tim Johnson in To Kill a Mockingbird, but also the snowman. Maycomb County is expecting snowfall, enough for school to be closed (Spark Notes). Maycomb is known for being a very tired and counterproductive town where things rarely occur. So this was a wonderful surprise to the citizens of Maycomb. Because of this, the citizens of Maycomb decided to build a snowman or Morphodite. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Miss Maudie describes the snowman as a Morphodite meaning it resembles both a man and a woman (Lee 91). Unfortunately, there was a short supply of snow, so they used muck. This is where the symbol develops. This shows that everyone should be equal. For example, “Jem, I ain’t ever heard of a nigger snowman”
