The Difference in Morals When faced with a problem, most people find a way to solve it; others let the problem pass by without a second thought. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout Finch lets her society take her innocence to discrimination. Meanwhile in the film The Help, Eugenia, “Skeeter” does not let her society deteriorate her morals. In the film, The Help, The setting is 1960 in Jackson, Mississippi. Segregation is still a big part of life down south. Similarly in the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, was set in the 1930s in Maycomb, Alabama. Scout is more passive towards discrimination, on the other hand Skeeter spoke out about the wrongdoings of society. Scout’s reaction to discrimination was in general, passive. When Jem, Scout, and Calpurnia are walking back from Calpurnia’s church, Aunt Alexandra is waiting for them on the front porch. When asked why, Aunt Alexandra said, Scout does not think that she needs any more feminine influence other than Calpurnia. She believes that girls should act however they want. Miss Stephanie Crawford is telling a story about Boo Radley and the things that he has done. Dill asked Jem and Scout, Jem gave a so called accurate description of Boo, and Dill is happy with it. Hilly and some of Skeeter’s other friends were talking about making separate bathrooms for the help. Skeeter thinks it is rude to talk about people in that way, so she said, Skeeter’s comment shows that she does not want anyone to feel like less of a person because of someone else. This also explains that Skeeter treats everyone the same, like humans. Skeeter is talking with her friends and they keep bringing up how she needs to look for a spouse and get married.
