I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and I am on page 42. So far the journal is about Scout beginning school and the mysterious Radly family. Scout is trying her best in school but is having trouble with her teacher. He joined a gang and was later arrester, His father refused to have his son go to a delinquent school. Instead he was locked up in the house at all times. Scout is really mad because Miss Car made an example of her in class, so she beat up Walter because he was the reason she was in trouble. Jem felt bad for Walter, so he invited him to have dinner with their family. Scout scolds Walter for not eating right and then gets a talking to from Calipernia. Walter was poring molasis all over his food, Scout didn’t get why and she thought he was ruining it. Then after her talk with Atticus she realized it was because he was pore and never had molasis. She has a talk with Atticus and he tells her that sometimes she needs to walk in other people’s skin. This means that sometimes you need to look in other people’s point of view. So scout thinks about it in her teacher’s point of view and has a little more sympathy for her. This is hard for Scout to do because she really dislikes her teacher.
