“To Kill a Mockingbird” is a book by Harper Lee. The book was first published in July 11,1960. The book is an interesting fiction book. It has an unique plot and story to it. The story takes place in Maycomb, Alabama. The main characters are Scout, Jem, and Atticus. Scout and Jem are normal kids in Maycomb. Their dad, Atticus, is a lawyer. Scout went to school, even though she knew how to read and write. At school, there is a kid called Boo Radley, who only comes once a year. Boo Radley’s family is known for coming out at night. They were different from others in many ways. First, they didn’t come out often, except when they buy groceries. Finally, on Sundays they stay at home instead of coming out like others. Tom Robinson, a black man, was accused of rape. At that time, African-American’s were treated lower than white people. So, nobody stood up for Tom Robinson, except for Atticus. He defends Tom Robinson of his accusation. But Scout and Jem are shocked when they find out the person who accused Tom Robinson was. The people that accused Tom Robinson was the Ewell’s. They were in shock, because the they both knew that the Ewell’s were known to lie and cheat everyday. So, they couldnt believe the judge was actually believing in them. There were trials of Tom Robinson. Atticus tried his best to defend him, because he knew that Tom Robinson was innocent. But in the end, the judge made the decision of Tom Robinson of being guilty. From the start, Atticus had a disadvantage in the trial, because of the racism against African-American’s back then. After the trial, Tom Robinson was sent to jail. Rumors started to spread about Tom Robinson being shot trying to escape from jail. One day, when Scout and Jem were walking home at night, Bob Ewell attacked them with a knife. But, Boo Radley saves them and he stabs Bob Ewell. The Sheriff lied that Bob Ewell tripped on the knife, because he didn’t want Boo Radley to go in a trial and get accused like Tom Robinson. The first thing I liked about is, is the unique story and where it takes place. Most books have a similar plot, but “To Kill a Mockingbird” felt like reading something new. Next, is the things that teach you. This book could teach young readers important things in life. The next thing is something I disliked. I disliked the few 5 chapters, because it was just boring. Lots of my friends that read this book agreed with me that the beginning was a bit stale. But, It got better in the middle and end. Next thing I disliked was the length of the book. If the book was a bit shorter, It could be a better book itself, and also be packed with fun on every
