Many people have discussed whether To Kill a Mockingbird is still relevant in todays world. In many ways the book is still relevant even though the book has many topics that are sensitive in today’s world. For example the book still has instances of where a character has to choose to fight through adversity and do the right thing. Although the book is relevant in today’s world, there are many cases where the book can not relate to today. For example, people, including children, are using words and phrases that would not be accepted today. There is segregation in the city, and people are not afraid to show their opinion. This is very different in the world we live in today. Even though the book is old and it may seem hard to relate to To Kill a Mockingbird, the author shows some very interesting points that still are important today. The author has some topics that today we, as humans, still talk about. In the book, people are talking about how segregation is a big issue in the world. Today, we are still talking about segregation and how it affects people. Segregation is not as big of a problem as it used to be, but it’s an issue that must be talked about. For example, the language that the kids are using is very suggestive. Scout says the word “nigger” and “damn” a lot. Another example, is the amount of racist remarks that are being said about the black people in the town. If that was today, there would be many upset people in the town and there would be some kind of confrontation with the white and black communities. The book has very young children talking about rape and sexual assault. Kids today are not taught these things. If kids’ parents found out that their children were being taught what rape is, they would not be very happy with the person that taught them
