Life isn’t always fair and you have to deal with it To Kill a Mockingbird- Thematic Essay To Kill Mockingbird is a story with a theme about how life won’t always go your way and how you learn to adapt.The theme of all events in the story (including the underlying one involving racism) is that life isn’t always fair and you have to deal with it. In the day to day events of characters Jem and Scout Finch, the story builds around racial conflicts surrounding the case that their father defends. The theme surrounds the story, turning the tone of the story deeper as it goes along through Lee’s use of words of the wiser, descriptive language, and contrasts and contradictions. On Scouts first day she learns of her new teacher who disagrees with Scout’s father teaching Scout to read. Harper E. Lee used both words of the wiser and descriptive words and sentences to represent theme. An example of words of the wiser is when Atticus explains to Scout what a compromise is and why sometimes, things just won’t go your way. “ ‘Let us leave it at this,” said Atticus dryly. ‘You, Miss Scout Finch, are of the common folk.
