Acts of violence can be observed in everyday life. Most of the violence that can be seen is very unjustified. In To Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee, there are many acts of violence shown. Each act of violence in the well written story is meant to teach the reader a valuable lesson. In the beginning of the book Scout and Jem tell the rumors of their reclusive neighbor, Boo Radley. One of the rumors that is being spread is how Boo would dine on raw animals such as cats or squirrels.”Boo was about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that's why his hands were bloodstained if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off”(16). Atticus is a brave man for taking this case because is it 1933 , and he live in a town full bigots. Although Atticus provides evidence that not only shows that Tom the man who he is defending is innocent, but that the reason Mayella the women who is presenting charges was beaten so badly is that her father Bob was not pleased that Mayella was interested in a black man so he beat her. The jury finds Tom guilty, and sends him off to jail. While in prison Tom tries to escape, but is shot seventeen time. The amount of times he was shot is excessive and unnecessary. “ To Maycomb, Tom's death was typical. Typical of a nigger to cut and run. Bob does not just go on about his usual life instead he decides torment atticus. Bob starts off by spitting on Atticus. “I wish Bob wouldn't chew tobacco”(291). Atticus take the minor abuses because he knows if he was not on the receiving end someone else would be. These small moves of aggression quickly escalate when Bob tries to kill Jem and Scout. Luckily for Atticus and the kids Boo was willing to step in and kill Bob to protect Jem and Scout. When the commotion settles down the shreif chooses to lie and say Bob had stabbed himself.
