“What is that shirt?! You look like an elf from the North Pole.” I hear him say to the little guy standing next to me in the red and green striped shirt. “What a loooosssseeeeerrrrr!” There are multiple ways to handle this situation. Option A: Stay put and pretend you did not hear it. Option B: Say, “Leave him alone! Do not take your anger out on other people.” Put the bully in his place, do not let him get away with this! Which would one choose? In To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, metaphorically, a hero stands up for what is right even when no one else agrees, like option B. On the other hand, villains are bystanders in Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings, like done in option A. In TKAM, Atticus, Dolphus Raymond, Scout and Miss Maudie are heroes; in Kayak Brady and Brady’s dad are the villains. Subsequently, embracing the proper and kind action is courageous. Atticus displays this when he defends Tom Robinson in the court case. People do not respect black people in Maycomb, so Atticus gets a lot of hate from whites. Dolphus Raymond does this as well. He married a black women and had biracial kids. This was not allowed in Maycomb, but he does it anyway. Atticus and Dolphus Raymond are both experiencing animosity. Atticus, Dolphus Raymond, Scout and Miss Maudie are all icons for the actions they proposed while doing what was moral. Brady kept quiet when he shouldn 't have, so he is a devil. According to Slate magazine, 88% of the time when bullying takes place, people are present but only 20% arbitrate. These people are not voicing an opinion to stop it.
