Moral Lessons One Can Learn Through Greek Myths Alike countless works of literature, ancient Greek myths demonstrates discipline, power and control. It is a work of literature told from a narrator’s perspective vividly describing the life of ancient Greeks, their values and traditions. Through the series of Greek myths, modern readers can apply valuable moral lessons to modern day society; these stories reflect on human nature and connect to modern day situations. The myth of Arachne and Athene began as Arachne having high self-esteem and believes she was more talented than Athene in embroidery. Athene was displeased; she transformed herself into an old woman and decided to convince Athene to reconsider her choice. Yet Arachne was not convinced and interpreted the old woman’s words as a disparagement towards her talent and rudely replied back to her ‘’Keep your advice for those who ask it”.(Grant 22) Even after constant warnings were repeated, Arachne was still brave and fearless for any upcoming punishments she deserved. In the end, the victor was obvious. As a result for disrespecting the higher authority, Arachne became a spider. In addition, the story of Zeus flooding the world also presented the idea of respecting those at the top. The myth began with explaining Zeus’ anger towards his observations on earth. He thought the people on earth refused to worship him, denied to sacrifice, and became unlawful. As a result, he decided to flood the world and every living creature perished except the obedient couple; Deucalion and Pyrrha. They were spared because they were willing to worship Zeus and other gods and goddess and made sacrifices. In conclusion, individuals can learn to treat higher authorities with dignity to prevent consequences such as death. ts to
