The Portuguese were so successful in leading the way to exploration to Africa and in the Indian Ocean because the prince, Prince Henry, gave strong economical support and Bartholomew Dias, a Portuguese explorer, safely crossed the Cape of Storms, they lost their dominance due to other countries seeking control.
