The story of “Romeo and Juliet” is such an intricate story about disillusioned unfulfilled young love and poor mental stability that leads to a suicidal tragedy of both characters. It’s so intricate that almost 5 centuries later, we still debate on whether young people specifically those in high school, should read “Romeo and Juliet” and its relevance to our modern world. That is quite the opposite because the book “Romeo and Juliet” by author “William Shakespeare” is relevant in today’s world. The book, “Romeo and Juliet” is still relevant in today’s culture because it talks about mental health and young love, something that is talked about, heavily debated about and resonates with young people in today’s culture.

An example of this is found in (1.1.160-241). This evidence demonstrates Romeos poor, depressed, unhealthy and unstable emotional stability. It shows how he grieves and longs for Rosaline’s un-dying love but then turns his depression into love for Juliet as shown in (1.5.98-115). This shows how he thinks that the love at first sight with Juliet is true love, that he has found the one that he is meant to be with for eternity, spend his whole life with, create a family, have kids and happy ever after. When in fact it’s just the depression taking over his mind and clouding his judgement to the point he cannot think clearly or see what is true.
